Adults learn how to use the Kidpower approach for helping their children learn and develop age-appropriate People Safety skills. Your class can focus on any age range, infancy to teen. Participants practice ways to foster the skills through upbeat, experiential practice without using fear as a motivator. Sessions can be after school, weekend, or evening.
Our instructor leads children together with their parents/caregivers in practicing age-appropriate People Safety skills together. Concepts are introduced through stories, games, and role-plays, then adults and children are coached in practicing on their own. Age ranges can be 4-8 or 6-12. Sessions can be after school, weekend, or evening.
"No one ever showed me how to do this!"

Workshop hours can be divided between classes at the same location
Students of years 0-8, along with their teachers, practice age-appropriate People Safety skills for being safe with strangers, peers, and other people they know. Full-force self defence skills practice on a head-to-toe padded instructor can be included, if requested. Parents are welcome. Each class can work with the Kidpower instructor for up to two hours. Costs reflect the time the instructor is on-site, but the time can be divided between classes at the same site. This structure works well for camps and other agencies as well.
Our dynamic thirty-minute assembly programmes introduce larger groups of children, together with teachers and parents, some powerful People Safety skills they can use to be safer on the playground, online, and in their neighborhoods.
On request, we can include full-force self-defence skills in any of the workshops for children. In addition to the 'Everyday Safety Skills' included in our other Workshop, the children have an opportunity to practice physical self-defense skills ('Emergency Safety Skills') as well. Children work with the padded instructor to practice hitting and kicking.
This unique, comprehensive learning experience for children ages 8-12 spans one full day. Each child does role-plays in which they experience success using their awareness and boundary-setting skills in age-appropriate situations. The Full Force self-defense practice builds children’s belief in their ability to be powerful while increasing their understanding that fighting is always the last resort.

Personal safety skills prepare teens and pre-teens to navigate their world with safety and confidence. Because of their increasing independence, teens and preteens face an especially high risk of violence and assault that can often be prevented through awareness, action, and skills.
Teens practice a broad spectrum of People Safety skills including:
Our goal in teaching physical self-defense is to equip young people with skills to escape from emergencies if they are in danger and cannot just leave. In our Full Force workshops, students practice physical self-defense skills with a head-to-toe padded instructor.
How do we teach these skills?
Teenpower workshops have been taught in a wide variety of settings ranging from 2 hour one-time programmes to school assemblies to longer-term programmes for physical education classes or youth group.
In this upbeat, five-hour programme, students learn and practice skills for dealing with verbal attack, peer pressure, and harassment as well as assaults from strangers and acquaintance. Students also practice Full Force self-defense with the head-to-toe padded instructor.
This engaging, active programme gives teens the opportunity to learn and practice using boundary-setting, advocacy, awareness, and de-escalation skills that can prevent and stop most violence and abuse. Most often, these workshops are offered through youth groups and high schools. No physical self-defense is included in this workshop unless otherwise specified.

Fullpower personal safety training gives adults practice in dealing effectively with both difficult and dangerous people. Practicing the words to say and the actions to take in the moment can prevent and stop problems with people who don’t respect boundaries. Learning self-defense prepares adults to protect themselves from an attacker.
Women and men in our Fullpower workshops practice “People Safety” skills to deal with common safety situations in a straightforward, practical way at home, on travel, at work, and in their communities.

People of all ages with disabilities or other special needs are especially vulnerable to facing bullying, abuse, or assault. We’ve been successful in teaching self-protection and personal safety skills to tens of thousands of children, teens, and adults with difficult life challenges such as: developmental delays; difficulty with vision, hearing, or mobility; or personal struggles with domestic violence, homelessness, substance abuse, or being a survivor of childhood sexual abuse.
Our workshops are tailored to work with the strengths of every single student. We make adaptations for how different people’s bodies and minds work, focusing on what they can do, rather than what they cannot do. We teach the full spectrum of People Safety skills including:
We work with participants and their supporters to identify their strengths and then to work with those strengths to stay safe. Thousands of students of all cognitive and physical abilities have found our services to be relevant, interesting, and well-suited for their own ways of moving, thinking, perceiving, and communicating.
Our workshops offer a safe and secure environment for “learning by doing” through role-play and positive examples. We focus on what people have the power to do, not on what they can’t do, and we have fun while developing powerful and practical skills. We work with partner orgnisations and schools to find funding so that their students and participants can have the opportunity to learn these skills, and we provide Training of Professionals so that educators, social workers, and other staff can integrate our programme into their curriculum and activities
Our workshops for the general public are appropriate for most students who have difficult life challenges.
We also provide Teenpower and Fullpower workshops for participants and Training of Professionals for staff of homeless shelters, domestic violence prevention programmes, orgnisations helping people who are targets of prejudice, alcohol and drug treatment programmes, and orgnisations supporting survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
Tailored workshops are available on demand. Please call us on 0800 KIDPOWER (0800 543 769) to find out how we can make it work for you or the people you care about.

SAMS report
Healthy Relationship is a programme for teens and adults with intellectual disabilities. It provides practical tools to build resiliency and to prevent bullying and abuse. We can run sessions with disabled people, professional development for professionals, caregivers and other caring people, and provide interactive resources.
The resources are available online and as hardcopy (1 User's Guide, 3 posters, 3 booklets , and 3 CDs with animated social stories).
For each of us, our belief in our right to be safe and in our ability to protect ourselves is the biggest self-protection tool we have. Belief in one’s power to take charge of one’s safety can be seriously damaged for individuals who are survivors of assault, child abuse, domestic violence or a hate crime or who are struggling with personal issues such as homelessness, poverty, or substance abuse.
Our tailored programmes help people to develop a strong set of safety skills within the context of the effect of past experiences on how to weigh options and make safe choices. Our goal is to provide our participants with tools to make choices and take action that will help them stay physically and emotionally safe while acknowledging and respecting the hard issues they face.
